Link signals tend to decay over time. Sites that were once popular often go stale, and eventually fail to earn new links. Test first, then apply universally, and then you stopped running into problems. Ranking in the search engines can be hard. Especially if the competition in your niche is high. As you probably know, you should start with doing your keyword research: getting inside the heads of your audience, knowing exactly what words they use and what they are searching for. But then what? Make sure your site is up to par. Speed is critical; the user experience is part of how Google interprets our sites. People give up on pages that are slow to load, and this includes e-commerce pages with shopping carts!

It gives you the opportunity to fit in lots of keywords and it means you are regularly updating your website (which the search engines look favourably on). Having a blog on your site is good for the same reasons; plus if you are focusing on specific keywords you can write a post around them. Google can, and does, ignore low relevance links. The worst offenders are generic links (“click here”) and even worse, off-topic links. Thinking in terms of the user, a category with only 1-3 products usually doesn’t provide the greatest browsing experience.

to search engines and one way they determine this is based on how easy it is to get around the site or the navigation. Use 3-4 internal links on each page, but make sure they are incorporated naturally within the body of the text. Don’t put lots of links in the footer or at the end of your content.
